New York State Police issued an alert for fraudsters that have been calling from numbers that show up on caller ID as that of a State Police station, though that’s not where the calls are originating from.
“We can confirm this is a scam, and add the State Police would never ask for this information over the phone,” officials noted. The scam is currently being investigated.
“As with any suspicious phone call, the State Police recommend that you never share any personal information over the phone unless you are 100 percent sure of the origin of the call, and that verifying conditions exist such as security questions and passwords that only you and the vendor would know.”
